How you should hang your pants

There are all kinds of opinions on how you should store slacks, 5 pocket pants (denim/jeans are included in this), chinos, etc.  Let me pollute the space with my thoughts on the subject.  First of all, they should all be hung up after every wear to allow them to air out.  There are many different ways to hang your pants, but there are only a couple of ways that work the best and take up the least amount of closet space.

I used to drape my pants over the hanger like this and had to deal with the dreaded hanger crease.

Frustrated with the crease in my pants I took a page from the retail stores and bought a bunch of clip hangers like this.

Try to avoid hanging your slacks like they do in the retail stores (they hang pants this way for visual appeal) and hang them by the bottom of the cuff.  This allows the waist band of the pants to relax after a day of use.

I do hang my 5-pocket pants (including denim), chinos, joggers, etc. by the waist band with a little slack.  Here is an example.

Hanging your pants as I’ve talked about will allow them to air out and breathe after a day of use, which minimizes odors and reduces the amount laundering needed.
